This is a short week, so I will make this a short post. Last week I met with the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC) for the first time. The Council is represented by a student from each of our departments. I am very impressed by their concern for and commitment to supporting peers. They want to do what they can to help ensure no Terp goes hungry. I was particularly moved by the Council’s desire to support faculty through what they recognize are challenging times. I look forward to working with DSAC to advance AGNR and to supporting this group of future leaders.
I’ve been busy reading promotion and tenure packages. Reading the dossiers and personal statements has served as a good way to get to know well the accomplishments of thirteen faculty across the college. I am fortunate to work with and support strong faculty throughout the college, including but not limited to those seeking promotion this year. I am slowly making my way around to visiting every department. Each conversation is different but enjoyable. It is important to me to hear what’s on the minds of our faculty and staff; what opportunities our people see, what concerns some have, and how I can best support the talent that is within our faculty and staff.
During a President’s Weekend event this weekend, President Pines shared that what drew him to the university was the potential he saw. That’s what I see for AGNR. Because of the immense talent within the college, our partners, and our commitment, the potential to have greater impact for our students and the people of Maryland knows no bounds. I am grateful to be part of the team.
Wishing you safe travels for you or your guests, good fortune in the kitchen should you be preparing any part of a feast, and fun with family and friends.
