Nutrient Management for Maryland

Welcome to the Nutrient Management for Maryland (NuManMD) software web site. In April 2005, an improved version of nutrient management planning sofware entitled Nutrient Management for Maryland, Professional Edition (NuManPro) was released. Current users of NuManMD are encouraged to replace their nutrient management planning software with NuManPro. NuManPro may be obtained by contacting the University of Maryland, Office of Technology Commercialization at
301-403-2711.

The current updates for NuManMD willremain available, but additional updates will not be issued for the NuManMD software.

Instructions for updating the software are as follows:

1. A "Save As" dialogue should appear and give the user the opportunity to select the directory for saving the NuManMDUpdate.exe file.
2. Save the file to a location where it will be easy to locate later (the desktop is a suggestion). If desired, print this page of instructions.
3. When downloading has completed, and all instructions have been read and understood, close the browser and all other programs that may be running on the computer.
4. Double click on the NuManMDUpdate.exe icon to start the file-unzip program.
5. The default installation path will be indicated as the target location. If necessary, change the target location to reflect the actual installation path of the NuManMD software.
6. Click the UNZIP button. The unzip program will place the file in the target directory.
7. Click OK and then click Close.
8. When the unzip program has completed, the NuManMDUpdate.exe file may be removed from the desktop (if it was saved there). Either delete it or move it to another location on the computer's hard drive.

Reasons for update:

1. A record extracted from a FERTREC+ 3.0 database that contains a Sewage Sludge that was not on MDE's list as of March 1999.
2. Attempt to allocate more than the allowed number of crops for a Transport Manure Plan before invoking the P Rem Plan dialogue. This action is an improper use of the feature, but the update will prevent a program crash.
3. Corrects the problem in the History Section where the mineralization rate was not being saved if type (Other) was used.
4. Clover and Clover Grass Mixtures for Organic Waste Disposal is to be included as a crop that is part of the Nutrient Management Plan.
5. Fixes the organic print feature.
6. Clover and Clover Grass Mixtures for Organic Waste Disposal is to be included as a crop that is part of the Nutrient Management Plan.
7. Corrects the Brookside conversion formula.
8. Mineralization rate was not printing for "other" organic type.

For Transporting the update:

1. Create a folder called NuManMD1 and another called NuManMD2.
2. Download NuManMD1.1b.exe and NuManMD1.1b.zip and copy them to the NuManMD1 folder.
3. Download NuManMD1.1b.zip and copy it to the NuManMD2 folder.
4. You will notice that two of the three files have the same name. It is ok.
5. Title a floppy with NuMan update 1 of 2 and copy the content of NuManMD1 to that floppy.
6. Insert NuMan update 1 of 2 floppy into the computer.
7. A label needs to be given to this floppy disk. Double click on "My Computer" then right click on the
   3 1/2 floppy (A:) icon and click on Properties. In the label box type PKBACK# 001 and click the ok button.
8. Title another floppy with NuMan update 2 of 2 and copy the content of NuManMD2 to that floppy.
9. Insert NuMan update 2 of 2 floppy into the computer.
10. A label needs to be given to this floppy disk also. Double click on "My Computer" then right click on the
    3 1/2 floppy (A:) icon and click on Properties. In the label box type PKBACK# 002 and click the ok button.
11. To run the Update insert NuMan update 1 of 2 floppy and double click on NuManMD1.1b.exe file. The Update will ask for NuMan update 2 of 2 floppy when it needs it.
