How do you search for horse information online?  How do you know that the information you are searching for is unbiased, science-based, and up-to-date? eXtension (pronounced E-extension) is a web-based learning platform that provides unbiased, research-based information from national extension professionals in multiple content areas. Experts such as Extension Directors and Educators, United States Department of Agriculture personnel and others have invested financially and programmatically in this national web presence. The content has been developed and peer-reviewed by extension professionals throughout the nation. eXtension provides subject matter information in thirty-three diverse areas including horses, financial management, child development, diversity, urban integrated pest management, environmental stewardship, and livestock.

The horse content area is called Horse Quest.  Over 50 Experts (and growing), including extension horse specialists, veterinarians, and professional extension staff from leading universities contribute to this content area.  Horse Quest offers a variety of learning opportunities on a variety of equine topics including:

  • Ask an Expert
  • Informational articles
  • Learning lessons
  • Instructional videos
  • Glossary of terms
  • Online webcasts
  • Calendar of events
  • Certificate courses

Coming in 2009, Horse Quest expects to launch new learning opportunities including: a Hay Learning Lesson, The Unwanted Horse, Basic Horse Training, and Equine Business Management.  In addition, they will also be releasing the Horse Adult Leader Training and Educational Resource (HALTER) certificate program aimed towards volunteers working with youth horse organizations.
