EFNEP Success Stories

Submitted by Extension Nutrition Assistant,
Charlotte Harmon - Somerset County

Mary is a graduated homemaker. When I enrolled her, she was expecting her first child and was referred to me by another homemaker. When I started working with Mary, she didn't know how to plan meals, food shop, or prepare balanced meals.

I helped Mary with our EFNEP lessons, gave her easy nutritious recipes, taught her menu planning, making a shopping list, and how to prepare a balanced meal. She had never clipped coupons. I showed videos with most of the lessons as a follow-up.

I saw Mary recently and she said she was grateful to me as an Extension Assistant and to the EFNEP program. She told me she makes a shopping list after she has planned her menus for the week and saves money by clipping coupons.

Mary is attending Delmarva Beauty Academy and plans to graduate in November.
