EFNEP Success Stories

Submitted by Extension Nutrition Assistant,
Delores Funk - Washington County

Ms. J. was a young single mom with two children who recently dropped out of the welfare system. She was enrolled as an EFNEP homemaker, and was also participating in a Super Pantry program. On one of my home visits to her, she was very down in the dumps. I asked what I could do to help cheer her up. She told me she needed to get a job. I was able to share with her a list of jobs being offered around the county. She took the information, applied for and was hired at the Project Head Start program. Both of her children are allowed to participate in the Head Start activities, and she does not need to pay for child care while she works.

Ms. J. credits the EFNEP program with providing her information about the community, and support and encouragement to her as she was looking for and found full-time employment.
