1997 4-H SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM SUCCESS STORIES

Submitted by Extension Educator,
Barbara Briscoe - Baltimore City

In Baltimore City volunteers teach the youth EFNEP program at various locations throughout the city. Before having the program at their site, the volunteers attend a required training session provided by the Extension Educators. The focus of the curriculum during the summer of 1997 was the Food Guide Pyramid. Each lesson covered a different food group on the pyramid.

I would like to share with you a note received from a volunteer at the Webster Kendrick Recreation Center. The note was part of the evaluation and attendance packet. It read:

Dear 4-H Club:

Our campers are having a great time learning about the many different food groups. They also like to prepare the meals. One of our smaller kids in the 5,6,7 group said "this food is good for my stomach," with a big smile.

We thank you for inviting us to be a part of the 4-H Club.

The 4-H Office receives many interesting comments from the various volunteers and participants. Each group takes the basic 4-H lessons and expands on them. While each has a flavor of their own, they all teach the same basic nutrition and food safety information.
