Parenting Parenting is a base program within Maryland Extension Service and includes parenting classes, forums, newsletters, teleconference seminars, and workshops. Special programs include Active Parenting, Systematic Training for Effective Parenting, Positive Parenting, and Responsive Discipline. Priority is given to prevention-type programs for parents of infants and young children, parents of school-age children and teenagers, and teenage parents. Caregiving for Children Continued training has the most influence on the quality of child care that children receive on a day to day basis. It is a critical element in enhancing and improving child care services throughout Maryland. The Code of Maryland Regulations require that child care center staff and family child care providers participate in Child Care Administration-approved continued training. County Extension Family and Consumer Science faculty have been certified since 1994 to provide continuing training to the child care community in Maryland and continue to be recognized as major players in the Maryland child care arena. The goal of this program is to assure that child care providers keep abreast of current information and appropriate practices. Workshop programs include subjects relating to child development, discipline, interpersonal communication, parenting, stress management for providers and children, nutrition for children, healthy eating habits, parent-provider relationships, program activities for children, business insurance, record organization, cultural diversity, and retirement planning.
