Agricultural and Natural Resource Policy

The Center for Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy provides research, education and outreach on public policies facing Maryland, the US, and the world.

University of Maryland faculty who are associated with the Center for Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy are working on a variety of projects that have policy implications for agriculture, natural resources, and environment in Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed.   The projects range from applied research efforts to design water quality credit trading markets in Maryland, to quantifying the value of recreation services from forests, to promoting awareness of auctions that help small-scale farmers sell products to the local and regional markets.

More broadly, the center addresses issues surrounding sustainable agriculture, ecosystem services, farmland preservation, food safety, nutrient management, and best management practices for forests and agriculture.  To highlight this agenda, the Center holds an Annual Outlook Conference for Maryland Agriculture that brings together leading academics and policy makers that discuss strategies for advancing local agricultural policies.
