Seed Starting Class

Harford County Extension Office

Experience the joy of starting your favorite vegetable plants from seed using an indoor lighting system in your own home.  Gain the essential knowledge needed to properly harden off seedlings for transferring them into your garden.  Using this technique is fun and easy and will make the harvest all the sweeter!  Registration is required and the cost is $5.00 per participant. 

Basic Vegetable Gardening

Saturday, March 3rd , 10 AM – 1 PM,

Eden Mill Nature Center

Starting a vegetable garden is great family fun!  This class will provide you with the necessary information to create your own successful garden.  Best practices in site planning, soil preparation, seed and plant selection, garden maintenance, and pest management topics will be presented. Registration is required and the cost is $5.00 per participant.

Starting a vegetable garden is great family fun!  This class will provide you with the necessary information to create your own successful garden.  Best practices in site planning, soil preparation, seed and plant selection, garden maintenance, and pest management topics will be presented.  Registration is required.

Want to build on your knowledge from last year’s gardening experience?  This class will provide growing tips on specific vegetables, information about composting and fertilizers, and specific ways to deal with pesky weeds, animals, insects, and plant diseases.  Registration is required.

Composting 101

Saturday, May 5th, 10 a.m. to noon,

Extension Office

Saturday, June 23rd, 10:00 to noon

Bel Air Library

Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of composting, learn what can and cannot be composted, gain insight into a variety of methods for composting food waste, and be able to demonstrate their understanding of the composting process.  The cost of the class is $5.00 per participant for the course held at the extension office, the class is free at the library. Registration is required.


NOTE: All of these classes will be taught by Master Gardener Volunteers from University of Maryland Extension Harford County Office.  Expect to learn by hands-on activities and lecture.  Also expect to have fun, receive many hand-outs, and maybe a seedling or two.
