Conserve Energy MD
Energy is a critical issue in agriculture production. Agriculture uses energy as fuel for electricity to operate machinery and equipment, to heat or cool buildings and for light. Improving energy efficiency on the farm and implementing alternative energy systems on Maryland's farms and businesses are essential for maintaining agriculture's sustainability in the region. UME Water Quality Improvement Research & Education Projects
The University of Maryland, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources has engaged in numerous research & extension activities to address the intent of the Water Quality Improvement Act of 1997. The follow is a synopsis of these activities.
Water Quality & Environment
Information relating to water quality (ground water/surface water hydrology and protection, water conservation, water testing, septic systems, drinking water wells, etc.) and related environmental topics.
Northeast Regional Aquaculture Center
NRAC is a principal public forum for the advancement and dissemination of science and technology needed by Northeastern aquacultural producers and support industries.
Agricultural Nutrient Management Program
The program focuses on reducing the pollution of the Chesapeake Bay by plant nutrients from cropland.
Woods' Aquaculture Facility
The Aquaculture laboratory is currently evaluating the reproductive performance of high stress responsive (HR) and low stress responsive (LR) male striped bass during typical hatchery operation procedures.
Maryland Sea Grant Extension Programs
Chesapeake Bay and coastal issues including fisheries, seafood, aquaculture, water quality, coastal communities and marine science education

Forestry & Land Stewardship

General Forestry Course
This course is designed for individuals wishing to increase their understanding of forests and forest management. Specifically, the course targets Maryland forest landowners and other citizens with an interest in the principles and practices of forestry.
Forest Stewardship Education
Maryland's natural resources include forests, wildlife, and the related waters. The majority of these resources are owned by private landowners. Management of these resources requires research-based information.
Riparian Buffer Systems
This is a website to explain the basic concepts and principles of riparian forest buffers. This site also includes plant & seed suppliers, fact sheets, references, web links, a Maryland training manual and a general slide show.
