Nutrition and Food Science: Be Part of the Solution

Pursuing a Second Career in Dietetics

If you already have an undergraduate degree and are interested in pursuing a career in Dietetics, the Dietetics Program Director can evaluate your previous coursework and advise you on completing the coursework necessary to pursue the RD credential. There is a $50.00 charge for this service. Please send a check payable to the University of Maryland along with official transcripts from all schools attended to:

Dietetics Program Director
Department of Nutrition and Food Science
0112 Skinner Building
College Park, MD 20742

If your undergraduate education was completed outside of the United States you will need to have your transcripts converted to US equivalents before they can be evaluated. Please read the International Fact Sheet from the American Dietetic Association for more information.

Once your transcripts and check are received and the transcripts are evaluated, a letter will be sent which outlines the specific courses needed to receive a Verification Statement. At that point, if you wish to pursue the credential further the Program Director will meet with you in person to discuss the details.

Please be advised that the Dietetics Program Director will be out of the office on maternity leave during the Fall semester.  Transcripts received after August 30th of 2008 will be reviewed upon her return in January. However, all of the information that you need to get started is contained in on our FAQ page, so please read it in its entirety if you wish to get started in her absence.
