Ag Day 2005

UMD AG DAY 2005

80th Annual Ag Day

Dedication: Gail Poffenberger Yeiser

The AGNR Student Council considers it an honor and pleasure to dedicate the 80th Annual Ag Day to Mrs. Gail Poffenberger Yeiser. Since she was a young girl, the University of Maryland has been an important part of Gail’s life. Gail’s father, the late Dr. Paul Poffenberger served as professor and assistant dean. While Dr. Poffenberger was working at the university, Gil would often ride with her mother and sister to pick him up from work, during an era where families only had one vehicle. Because of her widespread connections throughout the university, it has become a joke that if a building on campus was named after a family, Gail most likely babysat one of their descendants. In 1975, Gail received her Bachelor of Science in Community Studies and her Masters of Science in 1982 in Agriculture and Extension Education, both from the University of Maryland. In 1982, Gail began her career here at the university and has served in her current capacity as assistant to the dean for public and alumni relations since 1993. Alumni to the university have often said that Gail is the glue that holds the AGNR College alumni Chapter together. Gail has also been actively involved in 4-H since her days as a Montgomery County 4-Her to currently leading the Anne Arundel 4-H Dairy Leasing Club. Gail is a huge asset to the students here on campus. She has served as an advisor to student groups and is always around when a student has a question or just needs someone to talk to. Many students over the year have affectionately referred to Gail as “Mama” Gail. Gail currently lives in Arnold, Maryland with her husband Rusty, and daughters Emily and Amy. The AGNR Student Council would like to thank Gail for all that she has done and congratulates her on being selected as this year’s honoree.
